There are various volunteer opportunities at Lower Salford. Below is a list of volunteer opportunities. In order to volunteer for an activity, please complete, print and return the Volunteer Opportunities Form (PDF).
Art Room Help
Mrs. Swanson (Art teacher)
Volunteers will assist the art teacher where necessary in the classroom as well as hanging up and taking down artwork.
Artist in Action
Chairperson: LouAnn Tullen
Artist in Action is a subcommittee of the Indian Valley Arts Foundation, which works to promote an appreciation and understanding of the visual and performing arts. An artist will come into each building of SASD for assemblies and workshops. This year there will be something for both 2nd and 4th grades. Volunteers are needed to assist with hands-on workshops. Members are also welcome to join with this committee. If you are interested in taking part, contact Alicia Crossgrove directly.
Book Fair
The book fair takes place for one week in the spring. Sales from this event earn bonus materials for the school library. Volunteers are needed to help set up displays, assist customers, write receipts, take orders and serve as cashiers. Volunteers can sign-up for morning or afternoon slots.
Cafeteria Help
Volunteers are needed at various times of the year for breakfast, lunch and recess help.
Classroom Help
Volunteers are needed to assist the teachers at various times of the day and year. Need will be determined by the individual teacher.
Field Day
Mrs. Lystad
Field day takes place on a specific day for grades 1&2 (half day)with a separate day for grades 3-5 (full day)in the spring. Students participate in various fames coordinated by the Phys. Ed. Teacher. Kindergarten organizes a separate half day for their activities. The volunteers need to be available during the day to supervise and distribute water.
Fifth Grade Picnic
The graduating class spends "off campus" time at a nearby park, enjoying a picnic lunch and organized games. This is organized by the fifth grade parents at the end of the school year.
Health Suite
Mrs. Keppel (School Nurse)
There is need for clothing to be donated to the health suite. Unisex colored sweat pants and t-shirts (long and short sleeves) work best. Volunteers are needed to help from October - January, with typing either in school or at home (if you have a typewriter) and one day in the spring for Physicals and dental exams.
Home Projects
Volunteers are periodically needed to assist the teachers and staff on projects that might night need to be completed during school hours. Need to be determined by the various teachers and staff.
Kid Voting
Volunteers are needed to help hand out ballots to children, and guide children to the ballot box. Volunteers must be available on Voting day. This event takes place at the local voting polls.
Library Helper
Mrs. Seifert (Librarian)
Volunteers are needed to assist the librarian in tasks such as cataloging and shelving the books, and in helping setting-up and taking down displays. The volunteers will need to be available during normal school hours and on a regular basis throughout the year.
Photo Day
Volunteers needed during the fall individual pictures (Oct. 25) and in the spring class photo (to be determined) to assist children in their hair and clothes looking nice before pictures. Volunteers can sign up for time slots.
Publishing Center
Mrs. Alderfer
Grades 2-5 students select one story they have written to be published and bound into a real book. Volunteers from each homeroom type the stories, make covers and bind books.
Reading Olympics
Mrs. Buck and Mrs. Alderfer
This event is sponsored by MontCo Intermediate Unit (MCIU). Children in grades 4 & 5 will read books throughout the year and have a competition in the spring based on the books that they have read. Volunteers are needed the night of the event and with possible book talks through the year.
Sundae Bar
Mrs. Leedom (Cafeteria Manager)

Four times a year, the cafeteria puts out a treat for the children. They get to enjoy a sundae bar. A few volunteers are needed to help dish out the ice cream and fixings for the kids. This year the sundaes will be served October 10, 2007; January 23, 2008; March 5, 2008; and May 14, 2008.
